Hello and good evening everyone -
I have been going through problem after problem with every rendering engine I have tried:
V-ray began last month by nearly destroying my HD, and after I re-installed it It was smooth sailing. (for the most part). However, I now have a license server error and can no longer use it: “Failed to checkout GUI License”. Nice. After numerous hours of research, I found that it’s a common problem - but no one really has any good ideas on what to do. After re-installing both the license server and the plugin, I can’t get it to work. ChaosGroup has nearly nonexistent customer service and my posts on the forums go unanswered. Have any other V ray users had this error? Seems impossible to trouble shoot.
As a result, I began to use Indigo - however due to it being an “unbiased” engine it took nearly 24 hours to render one image - an image I personally found to be equal in quality to a 15 minute V-ray render.
Others have been suggested - like Podium (which couldn’t launch and became corrupted) and Kubity (Which seems to just produce screenshots of sketchup views).
Please excuse the rant - It’s been a day of nonstop trouble shooting and zero progress on projects as a result. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hey all,
I’m new here and I’m not sure if this is how to ask questions or not, but here it goes. I have been learning VRay 3.6 for SketchUp for a little while now and was wondering what the best settings for a high quality render output should be? I work in an Architecture studio and want to make the most professional looking images I can. Any info about this will help!
Thanks!

Hi Sketchup experts
,
I’m having problems with moving texture using Thrupaint tool by Fredo.
It is a wonderful tool but in “Advanced Materials and UV Mapping in SkechUp with ThruPaint!!!” video by Justin Geis at around 6.30 he is able to adjust his texture in Click and Drag Translate mode (coordinates: rotate/move/scale appear). On my Mac they only blink. Also entire plugin doesn’t work as quickly as in Justin’s video. Would you be able to have a look if there is a way of improving that? Cube.skp (1009.4 KB)Many thanks

How do I assign a controller to a motor joint? When I press ‘w’, it doesn’t spin… The wheel spins when the joint is outside the group, but doesn’t spin when it’s inside the group. When the joint is inside the group, the wheel won’t move forwards, so that’s why I put the joint into the group.
Wheel.skp (121.8 KB)
I’m trying to make a skateboard that can roll, turn, and do flips & jumps.
Edit: I think I figured out the problem. I had to connect the wheel to another object. The wheel won’t spin by itself, unless it’s connected to something else? Also, I used the controller “righty * 5”.
Edit 2: I got the controller working, but I’m having trouble making the board ollie.
I added a servo joint to each truck to “pop” the board into the air, but it’s rotating the joint instead of the board. How to I get the servo joint to rotate the board instead of the joint? It should look like it’s on two wheels doing a wheelie after it spins.
I could just use a thruster, but the problem with that is there isn’t a height limit.
I also want controls to spin the board along the y & z axis.
Here’s my control scheme so far…
Rolling (thruster)
[(key(’’) - key(’’)) * 0, (key(‘up’) - key(‘down’)) * 10, (key(’’) - key(’’)) * 0]
Turn trucks
rightx * 10ollie/nollie
(key(’’) - key(‘w’)) * 30
(key(‘s’) - key(’’)) * 30
spin
(key(‘a’) - key(‘d’)) * 30
flip
(key(‘q’) - key(‘e’)) * 30

@Centaur, first of all thanks for the extension! I’m using it to export 3d posts for Facebook. One problem I’m having though is that when I create a face with a transparent PNG texture, the transparent parts don’t work right. The transparent areas are filled in when I view it on Facebook. Is there anything I can do to fix that, or does the extension need to be updated?

i am wondering if it is possible to create the look of the attached image with sketchup + vray; that being, a block model of some neighbourhood, but with effects that give it a realistic look.
if it is not too much to ask, could someone tell me what tweaks are needed on the vray settings?
and what level of difficulty would you say this is?
thanks

This is a plugin I’m currently working on. It adds tools to create the following shapes:
- Ellipse
- Helix
- Spiral (Arithmetic/Archimedean)
- Spiral (Logarithmic)
- Spiral (Parabolic/Fermat’s)
I’d originally planned to make only the helix tool because I needed it myself, but since the formulas for the other shapes were so similar, I decided to include them as well.
I still plan to make a few changes, so this isn’t an official release. However, since it’s stable and the planned changes won’t actually change any behavior (just stuff on my end like code readability and structure), I’m making it available for download. Once I “officially” release it, I’ll probably make it available at the SketchUp Extension Warehouse.

I’ve been playing with FredoSix Animator, and it is great!!! It handles nearly everything.
I’m running into a problem, although I’ve found a workaround. I am just wondering if there is a better solution I am missing.
The main goal is to animate multiple boxes moving along the same conveyor path.
If I select one box, and animate it along the path, it works as expected, perfect.
If I select multiple boxes, and animate it along the path, the origin of the 1st box acts as the pivot for the rest of the boxes, sending my boxes far off the path.
My workaround is to individually select and animate each box. However, if I select the same path, it’s offset, so it requires an additional translation movement to align it to the same path (simply moving forward to touch the path).
I’m doing this manually, as I haven’t found a copy and paste function within Animator that makes sense for this. This works, but my ultimate goal is to do this in a full sized warehouse which may have 50-100 boxes moving.
Is there a better way that anyone knows?

hello devs
I am having trouble toggling between render modes with code. Bellow is an example of what I am trying to do. Help is appreciated.
model = Sketchup.active_model # Open model #Wireframe = Working Good model.rendering_options['RenderMode']= 0 #Hidden Line = Working Good ... But why is it named hidden line though? model.rendering_options['RenderMode']= 1 #Shaded = Working Good model.rendering_options['RenderMode']= 2 # The following are not working as expected... # Shaded with texture = NOT Working Good model.rendering_options['RenderMode']= 3 # Monochrome = NOT Working Good and SketchUp crashes when I call the code bellow! model.rendering_options['RenderMode']= 4
To get Shaded with texture I have to the following…
# I think model.rendering_options['RenderMode']= 3 is much easier but it doesn't work. model.rendering_options['RenderMode']= 2 model.rendering_options['Texture']= 1
Now I need help with Monochrome because I don’t know how too call it with code easily. Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks in advance!
