Profile Builder - Texture Scale

@ninoalva wrote:

I have this “hatch” texture used in a “Span”. The hatching represents 2x2in Fence Mesh. PB does not keep the texture’s proportions at a fixed size.

I know how to use a “swatch” on Dynamic Components to reference a “projected” texture image so its size remains unaltered when the object is scaled. Cannot make that technique work in Profile Builder.

On the attached image, the mesh is supposed to come out as a Square. Because the Span on Profile Builder has NOT reached the Spacing distance, the mesh is compressed along the horizontal axis.

Nino

Adding some simple material attributes for rendering

@armin.rigo wrote:

Hello,

I’m developing VR Sketch, a renderer (and editor) for SketchUp models. I’m thinking about adding a few extra attributes on the materials that would be used to control a few simple rendering parameters, in addition to what SketchUp stores (which is essentially just the texture, color, and alpha). Just a few numbers would help getting a little bit more realism, like metallic and roughness. My goal is not to get great realism, but just a little bit more may be good. I guess the cleanest would be to store these few numbers in an attribute dictionary on the SketchUp::Material objects.

My question is then: is there already a common extension that does the same? The idea would be that if a model has already got some of its materials tweaked for another common extension, then VR Sketch could just use that as well.

I think that other renderers like V-Ray have their own completely different set of materials, unrelated to the model, and you need to map SketchUp materials to their own materials. Is that right? This looks overkill here.

Thanks for comments!
Armin

Trouble creating fur on grass

@cumulusjvr wrote:

Hi, I’m having trouble creating Fur for grass texture.
It sometimes works when I group 2-3 surfaces together but I can’t seem to get it working with all of them.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Spot Lights in Vray showing as wire frames

@dent336899 wrote:

Hi

Uploading: Barn Sketchup Test.skp…

I am having issues with adding in lights into my model from Vray, when i add any type of light in it is giving me just the wire frame of the light (as attached) and isn’t working when rendering, does anyone have any ideas what might be happening with this? It is showing that there is a light source in the asset editor but just isn’t rendering,

V-Ray Trial - Renders show no color?

@ruahaus wrote:

Hi All,

So, I’m an architectural newbie at V-Ray and just working with the trial to get a feel of what’s it like to render my own models. Here are screenshots from my active model and from the render V-Ray provided. As you can see – no color, no materiality, no background.

Any advice (tutorials I’m finding all assume these characteristics will render).

Hope y’all are fine in this trying time! Peace, Billy

Unable to update or remove extensions (Fredo). SU Pro 2020

@mikebox wrote:

Hi folks,

I’m probably missing something obvious, but i don’t seem to be able to update or remove my current extensions. To be honest i don’t use many - just VRay and a few from Fredo6. I’m trying to update the Fredo extensions specifically but in the extension manager i’m unable to click on the “update” button for any of my extensions. “uninstall” i can click… but nothing happens. If i click “install extensions” button, i can select an rbz file… but then nothing happens.

What am i missing? Please help!! SU Pro 2020 on Win10 pro. (even updated this morning just in case!)

Cheers

Mike

Missing layers Twilight render

@AstridAstrid wrote:

Hi there!
I am having issues with a few layers in my SketchUp model - it’s a large file, which may partly be an issue, but I am frustrated and hoping someone will know an answer!

Here is my model, however when I render it, the road to the left, the ocean, and the beach is missing. I’ve tried exploding all components, that doesn’t work. The layer is on too.

Many thanks!!

Vray rendering, Im new to rendering and sketchup, how do I connect the two programmes?

@tilodome wrote:

So I would like to try to render an object I made in Vray for the first time. But I have no clue where and how to start. Do I have to download the Vray programme and then import the programme into Sketchup or does it happen automatically, or do I have to export a sketchup model and then import it into Vray?

I can’t find any beginners tutorial for this rendering process. Sketchup beginners tutorial was great though, I hoped there was another one for the whole rendering process, but can’t find any.

How to make my object look real? (is this the so called rendering process?)

@tilodome wrote:

So I finished my first object in Sketchup and now I would like to make it look real. This is why I bought sketchup as I would like to later on model my new bathroom and import materials I would like to use and see how it would look like in real.

I read a bit about rendering, is this the subject I have to dive into to make this happen?

Or is there just like a simple button in sketchup to push and then it will make a real looking image of the subject?

EDIT, I used standard materials in my first model

Interior wall not supposed to be reflective

@bxbiaa wrote:

I’m new to SketchUp Pro 2017 and I was rendering this bedroom using Twilight Render, and I noticed that the wall with the three paintings reflected whatever was in front of it like it was a mirror, when in fact the material and texture is only a solid color. Is this supposed to happen? If not, how do I fix it? Also, rendering this part of the model takes an awfully long time. Thank you in advance.

Help finding an extension!

@edson wrote:

I remembered having seen, years ago, an extension (then called plugin) that would export views to be used in apps like Photoshop, Gimp, etc. to make selection easier in post-production: alpha, material ID (materials replaced by solid colors) and the like.

Does anyone remember its name and/or author?

Thanks.

Plugin for TENT modeling

@clarahdb wrote:

Hello!

I’m using Sketchup for modeling tents and Vray to render. I would like to find an extension/plugin to create a more realistic effect of the walls and roof of the tent ( as I’m modeling now the walls are just straight walls, no waves or anything and when I render it doesn’t look very realistic because a tent in real life will never be perfectly flat…)
I’ve been looking online and I could find plugins such as Clothwork but it doesn’t really match what I’m looking for…

Any ideas?

thank you

Model weight analyzer

@slbaumgartner wrote:

I have just written a new extension to analyze which objects in a SketchUp model contribute the greatest number of edges to the total statistics of the model. I am looking for beta testers to shake down the code, particularly on windows (I have a Window VM but I’m primarily a Mac user). If you’d like to help, please PM me and I’ll provide details and code. I only need a limited number of testers at this point, so it will be on a first come basis.

Question on vray material settings

@Eldar wrote:

when you change the color in the material settings in Sketchup, the color in the vray material settings changes, but if you change the texture color in the material settings in Sketchup, then the texture color does not change in the vray
Next material settings and does not change when rendering, you have to use Color Corection in the Vray material settings to change the color of the texture, thanks for the answer!

Vray Rendering CPU or GPU

@glenh123 wrote:

I have just downloaded vray extension and am amazed at some of the results. I have been using my desktop which has a pretty powerful i7 9700k. I was curious to note what were the benefits of getting a graphics card (if any) presently I dont have a graphics card.

I was imagining faster render times but after trying to find info on this I’m not entirely sure this is true? I mean I dont want to forkout $500 for an entry level card and then only get say a 20% speed efficency (or is this not how it works).

Any info would be helpful. I cant post this on the vRay forums as I am still in trial mode.

Thanks
