Hi, ![:slightly_smiling_face: :slightly_smiling_face:]()
I’m attempting to create an elevator with two opposing mirrored walls. The final finish should be an infinity mirror finish with the mirrors having a bronze tint. I have achieved the bronze mirrored effect but having trouble making the Vray render look realistic/presentable. (rough Vray render & Sketchup model attatched)
I can’t tell what exactly is making the render seem off. I belive it could be the fact mirrored corners included in the Sketchup seem to have lost any depth (all bronze is mirrored). I’d appreciate any advice regarding this issue.
Many Thanks,

In other words: I am always changing my mind about the colors of objects in my model. And its often the case that the object is within a group or is a group itself and has been painted from within the group. Is there some way that I can override the materials in the group and apply new materials to all faces without editing the group and painting individual faces?
Is there a way to, for e.g., make all faces within a group or component to revert to default material and then allow applying a new material to everything in the group?
The ideal extension would allow one to override all materials within a group from without the group.
Would Fredo’s Thru Paint work for this?

So I am aware of the short comings with the iMac Pro 5k screens and line weights, end points etc…
I can live with that…and also aware of dumbing down the resolution of SKP etc…or bumping up line weights to compensate.
What I’m really interested in is when will we be able to get 3rd party extensions that have detailed sub menu windows and tool operations windows that are NOT minuscule on the 5k screens? The extension tool “icons” pallets are sized accordingly and match the native SKP icons…so there is a head scratcher going on here…
Do we have to reach out to the developers of the individual extensions and ask for 5k versions?
Case in point Fredo RoundCorner.
Sorry if this has been covered already…

Can anyone explain to me how I can get the accurate area of an organic shape? I may not be using the right terminology but I am trying to figure out how to get the shadow or footprint area of a organic shape.
I attached a sample model. Is there a method to this in Sketchup, an extension, or Ruby code?
Any tips would be great. ThanksArea of Organic Shape.skp (2.4 MB)

Hi folks.
I have a question to a problem you’ve probably encountered before, but somehow I can’t find any solution on the internet.
The problem is, I get a black background on my PNG’s when I render my project. I hope one of you can tell me what I do wrong. My plan is to make a plastic wall with a logo on one side.
Here’s what I normally do.
- I start out by creating a vray infinite plane.
- Then I create a box from a rectangle and push/pull.
- I select it and make it into a group.
- While highlighted, I go into the VRay asset editor and choosing the “Plastic Simple Shiny Black”, changing it to another color in diffuse, under the VRayBRDF section, and then apply the material to the selection.
- Then I import a PNG with transparent background onto the face of the box.
- After that I go for the render.
I’m using Sketchup 2019 and Vray v4.
Any ideas what I do wrong?
Kind regards
Paul

Is there an existing plugin to recursively flip Y/Z axis in ALL selected groups/component AND nested subgoups/subcomponents to better prepare a model for Unity3d or other softwares using Y up as opposed to Sketchup Z up?
Maybe a simple one-liner which recursively iterate selected objects and rotates axis + 90° on local X in “Move Sketching Context” (see the image below).

Hello,
I was just about to throw my laptop across the room but then i thought i might ask for help prior to resorting to violence! This is my problem: I am using Sketchup 2019 and also using the extension Cutlist. I finished making my model and open up the cutlist extension. I create my materials to match my parts and am all set up. I click the generate button and it generates my part list. However no matter what i do, it resizes SOME of my parts to having the ~ symbol in front of it. For example: instead of 1/2" i get ~1/2". Thus completely rendering my cutlist useless… So I highlight the part that is “material size unavailable,” I edit the part back to the dimension that it started as, open back up cutlist, generate the parts list and the parts that I just changed are fine, BUT NOW several others that were ok are now ~~ ~~!!! I have gone back and forth for hours now and I am about to lose my you know what! Please help! I have tried making every single part unique prior to resizing it to it’s correct dimension and no matter what, If I fix one part, several others resize out of whack. Holy Hell! Please Help!
Thanks,
Mike

Too often I mistakenly back-up (zoom scrolling) into a group positioned behind the camera. For example, I’m in a room and backup (zoom out) and enter the wall. Depending on how complex the group is, often the only solution I’ve found is to zoom-extents and then navigate back in to whatever space I was in before the problem.
Is there such thing as an extension that, when turned on, keeps the camera from crossing through a face? I’d be fine if it only worked on the zoom-scroll as it seems it is helpful to rotate and pan through walls and whatnot. However, I cannot think of a single time that I would intentionally zoom out through various groups.
TIA

Hello everyone. Long time user but first time question. I own a forum and appreciate the search bar but I cannot for the life of me figure out why my TrueBend extension will nto show up on my Sketchup “Extensions” tab. It is in my Extension Manager and clicked to “Enabled” but the darn thing does not show up nor is it recognized by the Extensions tab as I mentioned earlier.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times. I did download the extension through “GitHub” but no idea how to install it that way as I am not that great at doing those sorts of things.
Anyways great forum and love the info! Hoping someone can help?

Together with the new SketchUp 2020 we release today the new Skalp 2020 Beta version for SketchUp 2020.
This new version has some very nice new features:
- Support SketchUp 2020.
- Toolbar icon for export to DXF/DWG.
- Toolbar icon for export to LayOut.
- Graphical material selector.
- Paint sections in the model with the new Skalp Paint Tool.
- You can now use a Skalp material from a Library without importing the complete library.
- You can now Export Skalp materials from the new Paint Tool directly to a library.
- SketchUp linestyles are now supported in the forward lines of the Skalp DWG/DXF export.
Also we updated our naming to the new SketchUp naming:
- ‘By Layer’ is renamed to ‘By Tag’
- Skalp ‘Tag’ is renamed to ‘Label’.
The new SketchUp feature to hide objects in scenes gave us the opportunity to reduce the use of Skalp tags (layers). We don’t create anymore a new tag (layer) for every scene or sectionplane.
We also changed the default Skalp rule setting to ‘By Tag’ followed by ‘By Object’ for easier use with the new Skalp Paint Tool.
The release is a BETA version! If you find any error, bug or bugsplat please contact us at support@skalp4sketchup.com
You can download this Skalp version from our download page

When I try a manual install, there is no .rbz file to install in the folder. during install there is not a prompt/option to select the 2020 version of SU. please help

I’ve just loaded up SU-PRO 2020 & installed most of my previous EXTENSIONS. However, I get the following message with: DPLinestyler
This extension is marked as being not compatible with your Operating System or SketchUp Version. Proceed anyway?
Therefore, do I wait for a new version ?
The other odd thing is that I purchased DPLineStyler (1.0.2) back in 18th June 2019, as confirmed by an e-mail order confirmation, however I can’t find that file on my system. If lost, how do I get a new file ?

I’ve been trying to create an 80s Old-Timey Tron look on some 3D text I’ve made. I drew some text, traced it in illustrator, saved it as a .dwg file, imported it into Sketchup, and used the Soap Bubble extension to create my geometry.
I applied the Vray Edges texture to the geometry but for some reason it is also applied to the hidden geometry even though the hidden geometry check-box is not checked. At first I thought it was something wrong with the texture, but I also applied it to a simple cube and it works on that. The only thing I can think of now is that perhaps Soap Bubble Geometry does not lend itself well to the Vray Edges texture.
Essentially all I want is the Sketchup style to be the texture. I don’t want the triangles I just want squares like in the screen shot below. Any ideas on my dilemma? Thank you.
